In February of 2007 one of the first campaign flare ups was David Geffen stating the obvious:
At issue is an interview that Geffen gave to Maureen Dowd, in which he characterized Hillary Clinton as a calculating figure who can't win and her husband as "a reckless guy."
"Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease it's troubling," Geffen said, among other comments.
The Clinton campaign hit back, demanding Obama apologize. Obama refused, stating he shouldn't have to say he's sorry for something he didn't say. Ironic, considering he spent the better part of last week doing just that.
But I digress
NAFTA, Bosnia, Mountain Top Removal, Ireland, FMLA, MI/FL...am I missing anything?
Hillary's calculations and lies, Bill's red-faced finger waving are all part of Plan B when Plan A, inevitability, fell the fuck apart. Damn the Audacity of Memory and resurgence of Clinton fatigue.
The biggest lie of all, the biggest whooper deserving of five Pinocchio’s: she's tested and ready on day one. After 60 years of life on this earth, she just found her voice this January...then lost 11 contests in a row. She's been vetted and can answer that call at 3AM because she's a vampire who never sleeps, despite having campaigned for the past year, and just now getting warmed up. And her campaign still doesn't know how to get people to a fucking caucus!
But in the Clinton world, Democracy doesn't work when you're not winning, so here comes Plan C: take the nomination. The Clinton campaign is furiously courting pledged delegates from local precincts as they head to their county, then state conventions. They're strong arming Super Delegates, trying to convince them that despite being down in states won, popular vote and delegates earned, she deserves to win because Barack Obama is unelectable. And if you don't believe that Obama is unelectable, they will prove it by doing the GOP's dirty work, for free.
It's obvious that the election of Barack Obama to the most powerful position in the nation, possibly the world, will change how the world views America. How will it change if Hillary is elected? Will we have ground to stand on when we accuse a nation of having fake elections? Can we be of service to broker elections when an out-going president or prime minister is a sore loser? Can we demand that other countries have free and fair elections, when Hillary Clinton is demanding the front-runner for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president get up from his seat, and move to the back of the bus because she deserves it more than he does?
